After speculating which big-box retailer would locate in the 190,000-square-foot building planned for 44-54 Prospect Hill Road, it’s official — Walmart is moving in.
The announcement was made this week and confirmed that the new store would feature general merchandise and a full-service grocery store, effectively serving as one of the company’s super centers.
Wal-Mart said the move is expected to create 100 new jobs as well as provide additional tax revenue for the town. It is expected to open in August 2013.
Chris Buchanan, the company’s northeast public affairs director, said the store’s relocation from just down the road would add a deli, bakery, frozen foods, meat, and dairy departments, alongside more than 30 general merchandise departments.
“We are excited to bring more convenient shopping to the East Windsor community,” Buchanan said.
First Selectwoman Denise E. Menard on Thursday described the announcement as “awesome,” adding, “It’s always good to have good commercial growth, and new jobs are great for any community.”
